I'm in my final year at Rochester Institute of Technology, studying Film and Animation with a specialization in 3D Animation.
What is one of your favorite parts about your post-high school experience?
I've had a great college experience—I'm excelling in a field that I'm very passionate about, enjoying healthy relationships and close friend groups, and I'm looking forward to a few promising opportunities for starting my career after graduation. At RIT, I've had great experiences with internships, academic projects, and even a school trip to Los Angeles, where I was able to tour the facilities of the best companies in my field and network with dozens of respected professionals. Even with the coronavirus pandemic, I've still had an incredibly positive post-high school experience!
How did you use your scholarship funds?
RIT is an expensive school, with the highest expenses incurred within the first year. The ESL scholarship was very helpful in paying for that first year's tuition, setting me on a path to effectively finance the rest of my education.
What advice would you give to your high-school self or those looking to apply for a scholarship?
Take ownership of your education! Learn the skills you need, take the classes you want, give yourself breaks when you need them, and spend time with the people who help you grow. The things that happen outside the classroom are just as important as those that happen inside!
