CASH to Provide Free Tax Preparation for Eligible Monroe County Residents

The organization CASH (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) is a community coalition, led by Empire Justice Center, working together to help working families in Monroe County focus on planning for the future by offering free, high-quality tax prep that makes tax filing easy to do and understand.

CASH is now open for in-person and virtual tax preparation services. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, CASH will be accommodating clients by appointment only. To schedule an appointment call 585.900.1004.

Eligibility

To be eligible, clients must meet the following requirements:

  1. Your total household income is less than $60,000 for families with dependents and less than $27,000 for those without dependents and
  2. You work and live in New York State (but not in New York City) and
  3. You don’t have rental property income and
  4. You did not sell stocks, bonds, or other financial assets and
  5. If you are self-employed, you did not have a loss, no employees, and your business expenses were less than $35,000.

CASH is grateful for the continued support of ESL and other community partners who have helped 191,000+ families file tax returns and put $303M+ total tax refunds back into the community since 2002.

Additional Information

CASH provides year-round tax advice and preparation and uses the “tax return moment” as an opportunity to connect clients with a wide variety of resources that can improve families’ financial wellbeing including, savings programs, health care, financial literacy, public benefits, and job counseling services.

CASH could not run without the support of volunteers. Our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program consists of a team of trusted, IRS-certified volunteers who are dedicated to delivering free tax preparation services. Volunteering has proven to have many benefits including meeting new people, learning new skills, and giving back to the community.
