ESL Federal Credit Union Earns Top Spot and National Recognition with Prestigious Training APEX Award

Locally Based Credit Union Recognized for Outstanding Employee Training and Development Programs

Rochester, NY — For the 19th consecutive year, ESL Federal Credit Union has been recognized by Training Magazine as a Training APEX award winner. This year, ESL was named #1 on the 2025 list of organizations. After earning a top 10 ranking for four consecutive years, ESL also qualifies for a spot in the Training Magazine’s Hall of Fame.

The national awards program selects organizations with the most successful and effective learning and development programs in the world. APEX award recipients undergo a rigorous and extensive application process that includes detailing the measurable impact of internal training programs within all areas of an organization and how they affected departmental and overall company objectives.

“We are honored to be recognized with our fourth top 10 APEX placement in as many years,” said Maureen Wolfe, executive vice president/director, human resources & community impact, ESL Federal Credit Union. “We are grateful to our employees for their continued commitment to providing a superior experience for our internal and external customers. The support and development of our employees is a strategic priority at ESL, and critical to our ongoing success.”

The APEX Awards ranking is based on numerous benchmarking statistics and a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including:

  • Total training budget
  • Percentage of payroll
  • Scope of training programs provided
  • Detailed formal and informal training programs
  • Training linked to business/business unit goals
  • Business outcomes resulting from training

ESL invests significant resources to provide employees with support in their current roles and to help them advance their careers within the organization. ESL employees are able to take courses on topics such as leadership development, time management, career building, work/life balance, and other areas. Employees are also eligible to receive up to $7,000 in tuition reimbursement per calendar year.

The company touts historically low turnover, in part because of its continued growth and ongoing development opportunities available to employees. In 2023, 76% of all jobs were filled from within and 89% of leadership positions were filled internally.

The March issue of Training Magazine profiles the top five companies and provides information about the training efforts of other organizations. To view the full list of 2025 award recipients, please visit https://apex.trainingmag.com/past-winners-lists-coverage
