ESL Federal Credit Union
For Immediate Release: ESL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION TO BREAK GROUND ON NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN DOWNTOWN ROCHESTER Rochester, N.Y. - Mayor Robert J. Duffy and County Executive Maggie Brooks will join ESL Federal Credit Union executives and employees for a ceremonial groundbreaking on its new corporate headquarters at 225 Chestnut Street, Rochester. The event marks one of the most significant new construction projects in Rochester's center city in the past 20 years. In February, ESL announced its plans for the six-story building and adjacent parking garage at the Chestnut Street location following an 18-month site selection process. The company plans to move in with its approximately 300 headquarters employees in spring 2010, with room to expand up to 500 employees. The decision to move the credit union's headquarters to the downtown site were based on several factors: the expiration of ESL's lease in 2010 at its current office space at Kings Park; the desire to be centrally located for the company's members and employees; the construction of a building, which is designed to accommodate ESL's needs and which is efficient and environmentally friendly; and the continued commitment of ESL to support the economic development of the community it serves and on which ESL depends for its future success and growth. The new building will contain 180,000 square feet of office space. There will also be a parking garage connected to the building with free parking or employees and members. LeChase Construction Services, LLC, will work with ESL to oversee all aspects of construction for the project, which is estimated to cost about $50 million, including the headquarters building and an adjacent parking garage. The project will generate approximately 250 local construction jobs. The project architects are LaBella Associates. Founded by George Eastman in 1920, ESL Federal Credit Union (esl.org) is one of the nation's largest and most successful credit unions. A full-service institution with $3.4 billion in assets, ESL serves 290,000 members worldwide through 19 local branches in Monroe and Ontario Counties, a Tele-banking Center, an extensive ATM network, and the Internet.
